Role Overview

As an Entry-Level Transportation Engineer or Planner, you’ll build a strong professional foundation by applying standard techniques and procedures under the guidance of experienced staff while developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence to grow throughout your career.

What You Will Do

Conduct transportation analysis and prepare reports, memos, and other technical deliverables. Participate in meetings, including preparing presentations and public outreach materials. Support project coordination and management activities.

Requirements

  • A completed bachelor’s or in-progress master’s degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or a related field such as geography, math, statistics, or economics.
  • Relevant coursework in transportation, engineering, urban and regional planning, geography, math, statistics, economics, or related subjects.
  • Experience or exposure in the following transportation topic areas: Field work, traffic operations analysis, signal design, transportation planning, bicycle and pedestrian planning, transit planning, infrastructure finance, transportation and land use policy, travel demand modeling, and related areas.
  • Experience or exposure to relevant technical software and tools: Microsoft Excel; GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS); CAD (AutoCAD, Microstation); traffic operations analysis tools (HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, Vistro, VISSIM, Sidra); travel demand modeling tools (Cube/Voyager, TransCAD, VISUM, Emme); and programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Previous experience in a professional or team environment related to transportation or another relevant field is helpful but may come from a variety of settings and experiences.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and proactive approach to communication and getting work done.
  • Genuine curiosity about transportation and familiarity with the challenges of day-to-day travel within your community.
  • Interpersonal skills, a desire to collaborate, and a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to balance priorities between multiple tasks within a defined timeline.
  • Experience with technical writing and public speaking through school and/or work experience.
  • Openness to exploring and responsibly using new technologies and tools, while maintaining critical thinking and professional judgment.
