Role OverviewThe Environmental Engineer III performs tasks of considerable difficulty in the regional implementation of MassDEP Wastewater Regulations. The position requires the application of engineering, construction, regulatory enforcement, financial management and wastewater planning knowledge in the review and approval of wastewater treatment facility permits, evaluation and negotiation of enforcement documents for permitted and unpermitted facilities, providing technical assistance to the public at large and local officials and the assessment of potential impacts to public health, safety and the environment.
What You Will Do
Review engineering plans, reports and specifications for conformance with current sanitary engineering principals and for compliance with Department regulations, policies, and guidelines. Conduct field investigations of wastewater collection, conveyance, and treatment systems for compliance with plan approvals and permit requirements. Provide technical advice concerning interpretation of Department regulations, policies, and other aspects of wastewater management.

Requirements
- Practical experience in the design and/or evaluation of wastewater treatment facilities.
- Experience implementing Massachusetts General Laws and regulations.
- Experience reviewing and translating technical report results into permit conditions.
- Knowledge of the principles of sanitary and environmental engineering as these relate to wastewater collection, conveyance, treatment and residuals management.
- Experience related to design and/or construction of wastewater treatment facilities and the operations of these facilities.
- Knowledge of the methods of general and technical report writing.
- Ability to express ideas and technical information clearly both orally and in writing.
- Experience in dealing with the public and public officials.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Ability to utilize Geographic Information Systems.
- Experience with maintaining databases, electronic filing systems, and Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skills.
