Role Overview

The Epidemiologist II will work with the Population Health and Research Office (PHAR) to conduct research, public health surveillance, analysis, and interpretation of public health data to understand health equity and the determinants of health. The role will provide core population health functions to BPHC public health programs and initiatives, policymakers, other city agencies, community organizations, and residents.

What You Will Do

The Epidemiologist II will analyze, interpret, and disseminate Boston resident health-related data, design and conduct population health surveillance efforts, and develop expertise working with various types of surveillance data. The role will also prepare data briefs, targeted reports, online dashboards, and social media content, and communicate epidemiologic information through oral presentations.

The role requires proficiency in using SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, and/or Epi Info, and experience in data visualization and mapping software is a plus.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health or related field
  • Prior experience in designing, planning, and managing health analyses
  • Knowledge of public health issues, including the role of social determinants of health and disparities in health outcomes
  • Understanding of Epidemiology concepts and quantitative methodologies
  • Proficiency in use of SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, and/or Epi Info
  • Excellent oral and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
