Role Overview

This position supports TxDOT's mission by maintaining and repairing a wide range of wheeled vehicles, including passenger vehicles, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and construction equipment. Fleet mechanics play a critical role in keeping Texas moving. We support daily operations and respond to emergency and inclement weather events that impact communities across the state.

What You Will Do

Performs advanced repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Inspects work performed by shop mechanics and/or contracted vendors.

Why It Might Be a Fit

Employees at this level perform independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. This position requires driving a state vehicle and obtaining a Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License or having a CDL 'A' License with 'N' endorsement within 120 calendar days after 6 months of continuous service.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License or CDL 'A' License with 'N' endorsement
  • Associate's degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Technology may substitute for 2 year's experience
  • Certificates of course completion from a Technical Training Institute in Automotive and Diesel Technology may substitute for experience on a year for year basis
