Role OverviewThe Fire Captain is responsible for the overall supervision and readiness of an assigned shift, reporting directly to the Fire Chief. The Captain provides command leadership over all fire, rescue, emergency medical, and hazardous materials response services in a 24/7/365 aviation manufacturing environment.
What You Will Do
The Fire Captain will assume overall command of all actual, potential, or simulated aircraft, hazardous materials, structural, and EMS incidents; direct shift personnel and make tactical and strategic decisions to ensure effective and safe emergency response; and perform inspections of buildings, structures, fueling facilities, and fueling vehicles for fire safety hazards.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in airport or industrial firefighting, including at least two years in a supervisory or officer role, and be certified as an NFPA 1001 Firefighter II in Alabama or have the ability to obtain reciprocity.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED certificate
- Minimum of five years of experience in airport or industrial firefighting
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification in Alabama or reciprocity
- NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials-Operations certification in Alabama or reciprocity
- NFPA 600, NFPA 1710, and NFPA 460 certifications for industrial fire brigade operations
- NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter certification by the State of Alabama with current annual live-fire burn or reciprocity
- Fire Officer I certification or higher (NFPA 1021) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- Alabama EMT-Basic certification (or higher) at time of hire and ability to maintain EMS certification for the duration of employment
- Valid driver license with acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy
- Pass company background/criminal history records check
