Government Relations Specialist (Austin)

The Government Relations Specialist III performs highly advanced legislative and consultative work, serving as a vital link between the agency and legislative entities. This role requires a strong understanding of state government, analytical skills, and excellent communication skills to build strategic relationships and communicate complex policy and financial data to key stakeholders.

What You Will Do

The main day-to-day responsibilities include serving as a primary liaison between TWC and the Texas Legislature, monitoring and managing the lifecycle of legislation, preparing testimony for agency leadership, responding to inquiries from agency constituents, and leading the implementation of enacted laws.

Requirements

• Five years of experience in the development, implementation or interpretation of policies and procedures in a public or private agency
• Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position
• Three years of full-time experience working as a staff for a member of the Texas legislature, working with the Texas legislature, or research services
• Educational Background: A major in public administration, business, political science, or a related field
• Advanced analytical skills: The ability to gather, correlate, and analyze facts to devise solutions and prepare concise, impactful reports
• Effective Communication: Skill in listening and communicating with diverse groups and handling high-pressure situations
• Extensive knowledge of the Texas legislative process and state budget cycles
• Prior experience in legislative bill analysis and fiscal note coordination
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple, shifting priorities
• Attention to detail and an enthusiasm for producing high-quality work products
• Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate in a team environment
