Job Description
The Head Boys Basketball Coach – Varsity is responsible for providing leadership, organization, and supervision for the varsity boys basketball program. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the program, including planning, instruction, strategy, player development, safety, sportsmanship, supervision of assistant coaches, and full compliance with VHSL and school district rules and policies.

Requirements

  • Plan, organize, and conduct all practices, workouts, and conditioning programs for the varsity boys basketball team.
  • Teach basketball fundamentals—shooting, ball handling, passing, defense, rebounding, offensive/defensive systems—appropriate to players’ abilities and levels.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and coordinate responsibilities within the coaching staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of player eligibility, attendance, statistics, and required VHSL documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, faculty, administration, and the athletic department.
  • Attend required VHSL rules clinics, coaching development sessions, and maintain required certifications.
  • Promote academic achievement, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development among student-athletes.
  • Represent the school and athletic program in a professional and positive manner within the community.
