Role Overview

As a Histotechnician at Anne Arundel Dermatology, you will be responsible for following laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and reporting. You will work under the supervision of the Practice Manager and will be responsible for maintaining the highest standard of quality in preparing tissue and producing slides. You will also be responsible for performing technical procedures related to the preparation and processing of Special Stain slides and immunohistochemical slides.

What You Will Do

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include performing all technical procedures related to the preparation of tissue and production of slides, including precise and accurate accessioning of cases, dissection of skin and excisional specimens, embedding of tissue, cutting of blocks, H&E staining, and operating the Special Stainer and IHC Stainer. You will also be responsible for validating staining kits and controls, maintaining quality control systems, and helping to maintain inventory of IHC antibodies and reagents.

Requirements

  • HT(ASCP) registered or eligible
  • High School graduate with two (2) years of experience in a histology laboratory
  • 1-2 years of experience in the field of histotechnology
  • Two years of special stain experience is preferred
  • Must have skills equivalent to those taught in an accredited Histotechnology program
  • Must be qualified as high complexity testing personnel under CLIA regulations
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of computers
  • Ability to read and understand written protocols, lab reference manuals, and memos
