Job Description
The Hospital Financial Counselor assists with patient financial processing in the Patient Access Department, prioritizing and coordinating patient accounts from admission to discharge. Ensures uninsured or underinsured patients are evaluated for state medical assistance and financial assistance programs. The role involves verifying insurance eligibility, collecting patient responsibility amounts, and explaining insurance benefits.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required / College Degree accepted in lieu of experience
  • Experience with Patient Access/Accounting – Billing/Collections/Customer Service
  • Knowledge of Medicare preferred
  • Knowledge of EPIC, Cerner / Allscripts / Availity/ Millenium a plus
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA or its equivalent)
  • Certified Patient Access Specialist certification
