Role Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for producing, as well as leading and advising an inbound inspection team to consistently produce accurate Inspection Defect Reports on all types of railcars. These reports must meet all external and internal requirements related to Safety, Quality, and Cost. Serves as a technical expert in inspection. Serves as a back-up Supervisor and coaches and mentors Inbound Inspection Specialists.

What You Will Do

Perform inbound inspections on all types of railroad cars and equipment, accurately document identified defects, maintain high accuracy in defect documentation, enforce GATX Engineering railcar inspection standards, respond to inquiries, determine railroad and associated damage, and maintain up to date knowledge of customer, regulatory and company policies and procedures.

Must be able to stand/sit/work in front of a computer for extended periods, walk for extended periods of time, and participate in department and company meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years railcar experience; minimum of two (2) years as Sr. Inspector preferred
  • Certified in NDT Visual Testing, Level II – NDT-VT
  • Extensive technical / railcar repair knowledge including, but not limited to, regulatory requirements associated with the FRA and AAR as well as GATX Rail requirements
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with, or the ability to learn, Microsoft Office, PowerBI, Maintenance Management System (MMS), Service Event Management (SEM), GATX ShopPortal, Railinc, and GATX Tails
