Role Overview

The Industrial Commission, Portsmouth District Office, is seeking an experienced licensed attorney to serve as a District Hearing Officer. The successful candidate will conduct hearings in person and online, manage their own caseload, and write decisions for all hearings conducted. The role involves ensuring fair and legal proceedings, performing legal research, and participating in depositions. The Hearing Officer will also provide training to new Hearing Officers and Legal Interns. The position requires a high volume of work, with the ability to travel to OIC offices and manage time efficiently.

What You Will Do

The successful candidate will prepare for, conduct, and issue orders from administrative hearings on Workers' Compensation claims. This includes hearing claims on issues such as allowance, payment of compensation, payment of medical bills, and determination of percentage of permanent partial disability. The Hearing Officer will also complete miscellaneous assignments made by Regional Managers or any member of the OIC.

Requirements

  • Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4121.34 ORC
  • Licensed attorney with Ohio workers' compensation experience
