Role Overview

The Instructional Assistant will provide support to students and teachers in a classroom setting, enhancing the instructional process and providing care and supervision to students. This role is part of the Broward County School System, working under the direct supervision of a teacher. The successful candidate will engage in various activities, including classroom-related clerical support, supervising students, and assisting with daily living activities.

What You Will Do

The Instructional Assistant will perform tasks such as creating instructional materials, supervising students, providing classroom-related clerical support, and assisting with lunchroom activities. They will also assist with nap and rest periods, provide care for children when the teacher is not present, and follow-up on lessons presented by the teacher.

To be successful in this role, you will need to interact and communicate effectively with children, have computer skills, and be able to follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies. Preferred qualifications include successful completion of the Principles of Teaching or achieving a passing score on the ParaPro Test, or an earned associate degree from an accredited institution.

Requirements

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Education Development (GED) testing program
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children
  • Computer skills required as needed for the position
