Role OverviewAssists teachers in the instruction of pupils at schools, including schools involved in the Chicago Effective Schools Project. Provides support and assistance to the local school planning team, assists in the supervision of students, and participates in the implementation of innovative education activities.
What You Will Do
Provides instruction-related support services, assists students in understanding and completing classroom assignments, greets and directs visitors, and operates audio-visual equipment. Provides tutoring services to students, collects and grades homework assignments, and contacts parents and guardians.

Requires general knowledge of school-aged children, basic educational methods, and proper English grammar and spelling. Must be able to follow and confer written and oral instructions, work with and for school-aged children, and maintain an orderly classroom environment.
Requirements
- Completion of an Associate's degree from a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or another regional accrediting body
- Successful completion of at least sixty (60) semester hours of college credit at a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or another regional accrediting body
- Successful completion of a state-approved paraprofessional assessment
- At least one year of work experience as a Chicago Public Schools' Teacher Assistant
- General knowledge of the behavior patterns of school-aged children
- Knowledge of basic educational methods and techniques
- Working knowledge of proper English grammar and spelling
- Good knowledge of Chicago Public Schools rules and regulations
