Role OverviewThe Interim Controller provides temporary leadership and oversight of finance and accounting operations for colleges and universities. This role requires a strong understanding of higher education accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and business office operations.
What You Will Do
Provide interim leadership and daily oversight of college finance and accounting operations, manage general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, grants management, cash management, fixed assets, and related financial activities.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
- CPA, MBA, or other relevant professional credential
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education finance, accounting, or business office leadership
- Strong knowledge of accrual accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, grants management, audit preparation, compliance, and internal controls
- Experience managing month-end and year-end closing processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex financial, operational, and system-related challenges
- Experience leading teams and supervising finance or business office personnel
- Ability to step into a temporary leadership role, quickly assess institutional needs, establish priorities, and maintain continuity of operations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to technical and nontechnical audiences
