Job Description
Interpreter DHH position supports student achievement in the academic setting by facilitating signed and/or spoken communication for d/Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students, parents, and staff.

Requirements

  • Assesses classroom, assembly hall, and other room setups for proper setup to facilitate deaf and hard of hearing students' learning
  • Attends in-services, workshops, and training for job functions and maintaining interpreter certification
  • Submits an Interpreting Services report for IEP
  • Attends Individual Education Program meetings for providing necessary input into the evaluation of students' communication needs
  • Collaborates with teachers and IEP team members for assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementation of students' objectives
  • Follows strict code of ethics for ensuring student confidentiality
  • Facilitates all communication in all educational settings for ensuring equal access to information
  • Supports self-advocacy on the part of the student for preparing the student to become increasingly independent
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality of information regarding students and staff information and issues
  • Models appropriate behavior for students
  • Develops and maintains a professional rapport with classroom teacher and other staff
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of students, staff, and parents
  • Communicates with students, parents, instructional and support staff by letter, phone, e-mail, fax or personal contact
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and organize
  • Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and parent conferences as required
  • Acquires a minimum of 20 hours of in-service annually
