Job Description
The Juvenile Justice Detention Officer II position is a highly responsible role in the criminal justice system, requiring a strong leader to maintain a safe and secure environment for youth and staff. The officer will be responsible for adhering to agency or facility policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and secure environment, and ensuring the detained youth are provided with their constitutional rights.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide rational numbers
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports and records
  • Ability to effectively work with youth, co-workers, supervisors and the public
  • Knowledge of good hygiene
  • Knowledge of the Department and facility policies and procedures
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in a timely manner
  • Ability to determine the appropriate level of force
  • Ability to observe changes in youth’s behaviors
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to correct behavior
  • Knowledge of good housekeeping tasks relative to maintaining the sanitary conditions of the facility
