Job Description
The Mentor Marsh Intern assists researchers on a study investigating the density of rare and secretive marsh birds as a function of habitat within the greater Mentor Marsh ecosystem. This is an 8-week program at 40 hours per week (320 hours) with the hopes to start May 18th, but the exact dates can be arranged with your direct supervisor.

Requirements

  • Assist researchers on a study investigating the density of rare and secretive marsh birds as a function of habitat within the greater Mentor Marsh ecosystem
  • Use various detection methods to monitor marsh bird activities, including automated recording units (ARUs), motion-detecting trail cameras, and timed point counts
  • Collect and evaluate data on marsh animals, vegetation, and abiotic factors
  • Create maps using GIS software
  • Review the images captured by the cameras at the ARUs
  • Organize large sets of data
  • Communicate effectively both written and orally
  • Use GPS/phone applications to navigate to waypoints
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
