Job Description
The Mentor Marsh Intern assists researchers on a study investigating the density of rare and secretive marsh birds as a function of habitat within the greater Mentor Marsh ecosystem. This is an 8-week program at 40 hours per week (320 hours) with the hopes to start May 18th, but the exact dates can be arranged with your direct supervisor.
Requirements
Assist researchers on a study investigating the density of rare and secretive marsh birds as a function of habitat within the greater Mentor Marsh ecosystem
Use various detection methods to monitor marsh bird activities, including automated recording units (ARUs), motion-detecting trail cameras, and timed point counts
Collect and evaluate data on marsh animals, vegetation, and abiotic factors
Create maps using GIS software
Review the images captured by the cameras at the ARUs
Organize large sets of data
Communicate effectively both written and orally
Use GPS/phone applications to navigate to waypoints
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
