Lab Assistant - Core Lab

Requirements

• Prioritize incoming specimens and process patient specimens according to department safety and OSHA guidelines.
• Draw blood samples from patients based on physicians' orders and in accordance with departmental safety and OSHA guidelines.
• Generate and attach labels to specimen/blood samples, perform specimen processing and aliquoting according to pre-established test requirements.
• Accurately enter and review laboratory test data in the laboratory computer system, detect and correct errors according to laboratory policies and quality standards.
• Communicate with patients and answer routine questions from physicians, nurses, or other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain a neat and clean work area, stock storage area with supplies and inventories as necessary, and clean glassware, equipment, and small instruments.
• Perform transportation duties, time stamp or computer verify all laboratory requests, and order tests in the system.
• Conduct routine inspection, maintenance, and quality control checks on equipment, report unusual findings timely to supervisor or lead designee.
• Prepare patients for and/or administer tolerance tests or other tests specific to assigned area.
• Perform various clerical duties such as answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, maintaining records, or relaying a messages to the appropriate personnel.
