Role OverviewThe Laboratory Manager will oversee lab operations and support a diverse portfolio of research projects at the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society. The role involves managing lab equipment, training student research assistants, and ensuring compliance with environmental health and safety guidelines. This is a full-time, 12-month position with the possibility of renewal, based on satisfactory work performance and dependent upon funding.
What You Will Do
The Laboratory Manager will manage operations of the lab's cavity ringdown spectrometers, provide assistance to student research assistants and visiting researchers, and perform tasks such as instrument operation, scheduling and maintenance, lab purchasing, sample preparation, data analysis, quality control, and archival.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geosciences, environmental science, or other STEM fields, with experience in climate, paleoclimate, geology, and/or oceanographic research. The candidate should also have experience with data analysis and visualization software, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in geosciences, environmental science, or other STEM field
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience or the equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Prior experience in climate, paleoclimate, geology, and/or oceanographic research
- Experience operating analytical instrumentation
- Experience with data analysis and visualization software (e.g. R, Matlab, Python)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Google suite, MS Office, and data analysis and visualization software
- Scientific writing and reporting
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a laboratory environment
