Job Description
Role Overview

As an Ohio EPA lab scientist, you will perform tests that require specialized knowledge, training, and judgement, conducting complex microbiological and chemical analysis of toxic inorganic compounds for effects on environmental and public health. You will adapt and validate methods from published methodology and perform quality control functions as described in protocols on assigned tests.

What You Will Do

You will analyze PM 2.5 air filters according to the U. S. EPA Region 5 guidance document and perform chemical analysis for environmental parameters on surface, ground and waste waters, drinking water, air, fish tissue, and sediments under general direction. You will interpret analytical results and maintain laboratory records and work-related documentation.

Why It Might Be a Fit

You will prepare chemical reagents and standard solutions and develop reports for submittal to the laboratory QA officer. You will perform extractions, concentrations, and clean-ups to prepare samples for analysis. Along with this, you will prepare chemical reagents and standard solutions while interpreting operation conditions and maintaining instruments daily.

Requirements

  • 42 mos. pertinent laboratory experience commensurate with job duties
  • completion of undergraduate core coursework in a biological, chemical, natural or physical science
  • completion of Master of Science core program in a biological, chemical, natural or physical science
  • 12 mos. exp. as Laboratory Scientist 1, 83291
  • equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment
