Role Overview

The Lead Librarian for the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room reports to the RSCR Manager. This position is responsible for ensuring the daily operations of the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room's physical space on the 4th floor of the new Main Library, opening in Spring of 2027. The position will manage desk schedules, suggest and implement policies for public use of space, and provide assistance to the public. This position provides substantial research and reference assistance to members of the community and local officials, including conducting original research on local history, government, and culture.

What You Will Do

Plan and facilitate programs and services for a specific area (Adult, Teen, Children’s, Technology or Regional History/Genealogy). Provide professional library work for diverse audiences, including frequent face-to-face customer interactions, assistance with collections and access to library materials, resolution of complex reference, research/homework and readers’ advisory requests.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • 5+ years of experience in a library setting
  • Experience in a leadership role or supervisory capacity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
