Role Overview

The Legal Director of Civil and Human Rights will oversee compliance with civil and human rights mandates, work on special projects, and provide legal support to the Legal Affairs Unit. The role will involve coordination with various city agencies and partners to ensure remediation measures are implemented in a timely and legal manner. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining compliance with a Federal Court Settlement Order and working closely with the DAFN staff and all NYCEM units.

What You Will Do

The Legal Director will be responsible for coordinating with the DAFN staff and all NYCEM units for compliance with Local Laws, state, and federal civil and human rights mandates. They will also work on special projects as directed by the Chief Counsel and the Deputy Chief Counsel, and provide legal support to the Legal Affairs Unit.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar
  • 18 months of experience in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work
