PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists Lineman in installing, inspecting, and maintaining overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
• Installs, inspects, and maintains third rail equipment.
• Assists Lineman in installing and maintaining fixed lighting and electrical apparatus.
• Cuts and welds using gas and electric arc welding equipment.
• Assists in construction work.
• Assists Lineman in troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and inspecting electric motors, DC and AC switchgear, drainage pumps and subway louvers/fans.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration.
• Required to be familiar with gas and electric welding/cutting equipment.
• Must be familiar with measuring gauges, fine hand tools, bench power tools and electrical measuring instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, and ammeters.
• Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and be able to operate an Authority or personal vehicle.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Extensive climbing of ladders and stairs.
• Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• General knowledge of how electrical systems work.
• General knowledge of gauges, calipers, fine hand tools, bench power tools, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and ammeters.
• General knowledge of the circuitry used in relays, motors, incandescent/fluorescent lighting, and automatic power switchgear.
• General knowledge of how to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings.
• Good mathematical and measurement skills.
• Good electrical installation and repair skills.

• Good knot tying skills.
• Ability to set up and use various types of ladders.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Works on or near elevated structures, ballasted track, or subway track, adjacent to moving trains and energized power rails. Works in close proximity to vehicular street traffic.
• Works outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
• Subject to work various hours and days as required.
• Subject to call anytime of day or night, especially in emergency situations.
• Subject to work in other classifications under proper supervision.
• Required to attend and pass training courses.
