Carlisle Weatherproofing Technologies (CWT) is a leading building envelope solution supplier that effectively drives energy efficiency and sustainability in commercial and residential applications. We are seeking a Maintenance Apprentice in our Garland, TX Plant.
Job Summary
Maintenance apprentice is an entry-level position, so no job specific maintenance related experience is necessary. However, those with some experience as a mechanic, a maintenance technician, machine operator, or one who already knows how to install and/or repair equipment may have a shorter period as an apprentice. You must be willing and able to understand electrical and mechanical fundamentals, troubleshooting, have good dexterity and awareness to perform the job duties. You must also have an attitude of safety first and best practices. A plant maintenance apprentice learns to repair and maintain industrial machinery, electrical systems, and facility infrastructure through a blend of on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A maintenance apprentice works alongside fully qualified maintenance technicians to learn the skills of the trade. As a maintenance apprentice, your responsibilities are to assist with a variety of duties, including installing equipment, maintaining mechanical systems, repairing plumbing, working with hydraulic and pneumatic operated machinery, and repairing machinery. You will assist in the analysis and inspection of maintenance needs for equipment; Assist in the diagnosing of equipment malfunctions for the purpose of expediting repair. Assists in the PM’s, maintenance, and repair of mechanical system equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, etc. Assisting in the analysis and inspection of equipment may include assisting in the inspection of contracted work to ensure job quality. You will also assist in the preparation and completion of work orders for scheduled equipment repair. Also, you must participate and abide in established provisions of the Safety Program.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
The ability to:
Read, write and interpret.
Safely lift 50 lbs. or more.
Work from step ladders, extension ladders, platforms, or lifts without fear of heights.
Work independently without constant supervision.
Operate all hand tools such as drills, grinders, saws, etc.
Work overtime as needed, weekends, including emergency calls.
Good oral and written skills.
A team player’s approach and the ability to work well with others.
Strong self-motivation and goal orientation.
A desire to continue to learn, grow, and develop.
Computer literacy is a plus.
Follow all Henry Co/Carlisle safety procedures relative to any maintenance related task performed.
Bring initiative and a great attitude.
Identify safety issues and bring them to the attention of the appropriate parties.
Carefully follow processes, always paying attention to the details.
Communicate effectively with teammates and leadership; a teamwork mentality is critical.
Prove yourself as a dependable and conscientious worker.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Any mechanical or electrical training or experience is a plus.
Working Conditions:
Activities occur inside a building materials manufacturing facility
Temperatures exposed to both ambient/outside temperatures
Nuisance dust, use of chemicals, working with mechanical parts, pinch points
Noise of industrial machinery
Typically 40 hour per week with overtime as required
