Job Summary:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for assuring that the facility and production equipment are properly maintained and designed to safely perform specified tasks in a cost-effective manner. Scope of the job hours of operations 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday with “On Call” 24 hours availability, with possibility of overtime, variable shifts. Travel for training or other plant observations when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Identification, justification, and execution of capital projects
Monitoring of machine functioning to include repair/downtime history and planning/execution of necessary/cost effective preventative maintenance activities.
Maintenance of stock room inventory that adequately reflects the parts needs of the operation in a cost-effective manner.
Direct supervision of professional engineers, technicians, department supervision and clerical personnel; indirect supervision of hourly maintenance craftsmen to include skilled electrical and millwright personnel, as well as maintenance contractors onsite.
Maintenance of physical facility to serve its intended use in a safe/cost effective condition
Assure that the equipment meets necessary safety characteristics as specified by various regulatory bodies (e.g., Cal/OSHA, National Fire Protection Association, industrial insurance carrier, etc.); monitoring of discharges (e.g., air, noise, sewer, etc.) to assure that proper permits are in force and emissions are maintained within prescribed limits.
Interface with other plant departments to identify, justify, and execute projects that improve safety, reduce manufacturing costs, improve production, enhance repair of equipment breakdowns and/or facility problems, development, justification, and adherence to annual operating expense budget.
Outside interface/support with various company groups (e.g., R & D, Central Engineering, etc.) to complete projects/activities targeted at improving productivity.
Responsible for developing departmental budget needs, justifying such and maintaining costs within budget.
Coordinates project activity, including equipment design/introduction, with project engineer and Central Engineering. Supports plant SES (Safety Env & Security Supr) with waste management, pollution control and administrative requirements.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Previous experience in the following maintenance areas strongly preferred: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, and boiler.
Knowledge of measuring gauges such as tape measures and calipers required.
Prior experience operating a forklift and scissor lift required.
Basic computer skills (MS Office Suite including MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel) required.
Experience with an ERP system such as SAP, Ladder Logic, etc. strongly preferred.
Effective communication, both written and oral, and effective problem-solving skills.
Prior experience reading blueprints, equipment manuals and schematics required.
Prior experience implementing and maintaining Preventive Maintenance and Work Order schedules required.
Ability to work under pressure to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.

Education and Experience:

Required:

Bachelor's degree- Natural Science (Physics), Engineering, Business Management, Finance, Marketing, or Accounting.
Five to Seven (5-7) years progressively responsibility in manufacturing engineering and maintenance environment.
Two to Four (2-4) years’ experience in maintenance leadership role.
Chemical industry background or similar industrial experience.



Working Conditions:
Fast paced manufacturing environment where workers are exposed to both ambient/outside temperatures and dust; working with mechanical parts and pinch points; exposure to increased noise levels.
Exposure to hazardous mechanical, electrical and chemical substances/equipment.
Confined workspaces.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Used:
Eye and hearing protection is required at all times on the production floor.
Safety toe shoes (steel/composite).
Flame Resistant rated Maintenance uniform provided.
Other PPE as defined by management within assigned department.

Per the state’s Wage Transparency Act, the range for this position is $108,000-$115,000.  Actual salary could be greater based on education, experience, and other qualifying skill sets.
