Role Overview

The Manager and Chief, Diagnostic Medical Physics provides strategic, operational, and technical leadership for Diagnostic Medical Physics services across NMHC, supporting all hospitals and outpatient imaging centers. This role oversees a team of diagnostic medical physicists and physics assistants, supports all imaging modalities, and directs the Diagnostic Medical Physics Residency Program. The position ensures the highest standards of image quality, patient and staff radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and physicist performance.

What You Will Do

Oversee and provide support, training, and mentorship to DMP personnel and medical trainees. Manage daily operations, finances, and HR matters for DMP, develop and maintain policies and procedures, and ensure technical quality and regulatory compliance across all imaging modalities. Provide management oversight of the MRI Safety Committee and DMP Residency program, and maintain an active clinical practice as a Diagnostic Medical Physicist.

This role requires a Master of Science degree in Medical Physics or related field, board certification by ABR or ABMP in Diagnostic Medical Physics, and a minimum of 5 years of clinical diagnostic medical physics experience. Preferred qualifications include completion of a CAMPEP-accredited residency, demonstrated leadership experience, and expertise in patient dose estimation and optimization. The position offers a sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree (or higher) in Medical Physics or a related field
  • Registered OR eligible for registration as a Diagnostic Imaging Specialist with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS), inclusive of Mammography
  • Must obtain DIS designation through IEMA-OHS within 3 months of hire
  • Board certified by American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Diagnostic Medical Physics or in previous medical physics certification categories
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical diagnostic medical physics experience in a complex healthcare environment
