Role Overview

This is a work in the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and other marine equipment in the Department of Transportation, Ferry Division. The employee will perform tasks ranging from general and routine assignments to those of moderate complexity requiring the application of knowledge and ability acquired from on-the-job training dealing with ferry vessels.

What You Will Do

Repair and overhaul diesel engines, repair and adjust reduction gears, clutches and couplings, replace propeller shafts and bearings, repair and overhaul fire pumps, bilge pumps and hydraulic pumps, and perform related duties.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The employee must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle, and may require overnight travel. The position also assists other entities in the Ferry Division.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
  • Three years of progressive experience in the repair of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulic, air and electric systems, and components
  • Working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel and gasoline engines
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of reduction gears and hydraulic systems
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of air and electric control systems
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of vacuum and pressure pumps
