Role Overview

The Medical Assistant plays a key role in delivering efficient, high-quality care to patients at Community Health Centers of the Central Coast. The role involves performing non-professional clinical duties, operating medical and laboratory equipment, and assisting with patient care. The Medical Assistant supports the team with clerical duties and helps maintain effective workflow and operations.

What You Will Do

The Medical Assistant will perform preliminary intake of vitals, administer medications, perform in-house CLIA Waived laboratory tests, and assist with referral and tracking for routine visits and ancillary services. The role also involves greeting patients, escorting them to examination rooms, and maintaining clean and safe patient areas.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, graduation from an accredited school in Medical Assisting, and certification/registration through a California Medical Board-approved medical assistant certifying organization. The candidate should have a minimum of one year of recent medical assisting work experience and be able to pass a criminal history background check and drug screen upon hire.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduation from an accredited school in Medical Assisting
  • Certification/registration through a California Medical Board-approved medical assistant certifying organization
  • Minimum one year of recent medical assisting work experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients or employees
  • Bilingual (ability to read, speak, and write) in English and another language is desirable
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and keyboarding
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Working knowledge of EHR
  • Competency in EHR system
  • Current, valid, unrestricted California Driver's License (Class C)
  • Current CPR (BLS-C) card
