Role OverviewWe are seeking a Medical Records Coding Coordinator to review and analyze medical records, assigning accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with regulatory and hospital guidelines. The position ensures coded and abstracted information is entered accurately into the electronic health information system to support revenue cycle operations, internal reporting, and required regulatory reporting.
What You Will Do
Review and analyze medical records to assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes, enter and validate coded and abstracted patient information, and collaborate with hospital departments and coding vendors to support coding and charge-entry completion.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification and one year of experience in medical coding. They will work closely with hospital departments, corporate teams, and external coding vendors to resolve documentation and workflow issues and help maintain a low Discharged Not Final Billed (DNFB) rate.
Requirements
- Certification or license as a Certified Coding Specialist (C.C.S.), Registered Health Information Technician (R.H.I.T.), or Registered Health Information Administrator (R.H.I.A.)
- Minimum 3 years experience coding and abstracting in an acute care setting
- Basic computer experience
- Use of an encoder software product for code assignment in an acute care setting
- Computer data entry with 10-key
- Accurate typing speed of 35 wpm
- Successful completion of college level courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and coding ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS
- Successful completion of ICD-10 training
