Job Description
Role Overview

The Medical Scribe supports primary care providers with clinical documentation, allowing them to focus on patient care. Scribes assist with patient encounters, document visits, and help identify care gaps. They receive extensive on-the-job training in clinical workflows, value-based medicine, and accurate documentation.

What You Will Do

Document patient encounters, join providers in the exam room, assign CPT and ICD-10 codes, prepare After Visit Summaries, and provide administrative support.

Why It Might Be a Fit

Ideal candidates commit at least 1-2 years to the role, have knowledge of medical terminology, and possess advanced listening and communication skills. Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve is required where indicated.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications
  • Prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering
  • Prior scribe or transcription experience
  • Advanced listening and communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
  • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve
  • Ability to adapt to new workflows and quickly learn new concepts and skills
  • Ability to type 70+ words per minute
  • Ability and willingness to take direction and be a member of a team providing patient care
  • Excellent job attendance
  • Ability to commit to at least 1 year in role
  • Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours
  • Compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA
  • US work authorization
