Role Overview

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) enriches people’s lives through education and stewardship of North Carolina’s natural and cultural resources. The Maritime Museums Group of the Division of State History Museums is dedicated to the preservation, advancement, and presentation of maritime history, shipwrecks, and related natural history of coastal North Carolina.

What You Will Do

Administrate and supervise education branch and staff at the NCMM at Beaufort. Supervise educational branch staff in curatorial level technical work in secondary/teaching collections, taxonomic identification, exhibit implementation, publication writing and proofing, in developing and implementing programming and special events that are part of educational branch responsibilities.

Why It Might Be a Fit

Qualified candidates must have or be able to: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of educational programming. Knowledge of history, maritime history, culture, and/or related marine education. Demonstrated experience in public speaking and/or programming. Demonstrated experience training and/or managing staff.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in biology, education, history, museum studies, zoology, or a curriculum related to area of expertise from an appropriately accredited institution
  • six years of experience in assigned specialty area, two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity
