Job Description
Location: New Parkland Hospital
Primary Purpose:
Performs routine, complex and special Neurodiagnostic examinations for patients as directed, providing physicians diagnostic tools with which to treat patients.
Minimum Specifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
Must have one (1) year of technical neurodiagnostic experience to include polysomnography or epilepsy monitoring.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience:
May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements
Certification/Registration/Licensure:
Must have a current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification before date of hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:
American Heart Association
American Red Cross
Military Training Network
Laboratory or Epilepsy Monitoring
:
Must be registered by the American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (ABRET) as a registered EEG Technologist (REEGT).
NCV/EMG Lab:
Must be registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T)
Sleep Lab:
Must be registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT). Or Registered Respiratory Therapist Sleep Disorder (RRT-SDS)
Skills or Special Abilities:
Must be able to obtain high quality sleep studies following established department procedures.
Must be able to independently set-up, record and monitor 2 sleep studies per night, administering CPAP if indicated.
Must possess ability to appropriately use PAP devices, following established guidelines.
Must be able to respond appropriately in all patient-related situations and contact appropriate staff or physicians if needed.
Must be familiar with digital recordings and scoring techniques.
Must have ability to stage and score sleep studies using laboratory guidelines.
Must have good communication skills necessary in handling difficult and severely ill patients.
Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the performance and monitoring of routine, complex and special Neurodiagnostic procedures for use by physicians as a diagnostic tool. Assist physicians with special procedures as needed.
Maintains a positive working relationship with other employees, physicians, patients and family members to ensure patient's comfort and expediency of testing procedures.
Maintains and troubleshoots equipment to ensure effective operation.
Follows established infection control guidelines.
Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
