Non-Profit Accountant

The Non-Profit Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards for a growing organization with an annual budget exceeding $100 million. This position is responsible for supporting the preparation of financial statements, applying cost accounting principles, and adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including accrual based revenue recognition.

What You Will Do

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit-specific accounting guidelines. Track and report on restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and donor specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required); or Grandfather Clause: Candidates who have been employed with the agency for over 10 years, have demonstrated commitment to professional growth by completing at least two higher-level accounting courses, and have achieved a nonprofit accounting certification may be exempt from the formal education requirement.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and concepts (GAAP, financial statements, journal entries, etc.).
• Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, including tax-exempt regulations and IRS Form 990 filing is a plus.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
