Job Description
The Administrative Law Division is seeking a legal assistant to provide support for several attorneys. This position provides the opportunity for growth and advancement in a collegial and professional law office. The ideal candidate will have superb attention to detail and great people skills.

Requirements

  • Assists counsel with drafting, preparing, reviewing, and editing pleadings, motions, briefs, abstracts, legislative histories, petitions, summary judgment motions and responses, rules and other legal documents for use in trials, appeals, hearings, administrative hearings, and other administrative and agency proceedings
  • Prepares pleading shells and related documents
  • Prepares and cite checks briefs using proper citation method from the Bluebook and Greenbook; creates Table of Contents and Table of Authorities for briefs
  • Research legal and other sources as required and checks citations and case history, quotations, footnotes, and references for accuracy
  • Reviews and performs redacting of confidential documents for filing with various courts
  • Electronically files pleadings with various state and federal courts
  • Schedules, calendars, assists, and prepares attorneys for hearings, trials, agency or committee meetings, appellate arguments, depositions, docket call, and administrative hearings
  • Assists attorneys and support staff with case management
  • Keeps and maintains physical and digital case files
  • Communicates with state agencies, court personnel, and outside entities
  • Monitors attorneys’ mail; maintains calendars for multiple attorneys
  • Assists attorneys with discovery including the drafting, responding, and calendaring of interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions, and other requests for information in accordance with local, state, federal, and agency rules and procedures
  • Assists in conducting preliminary review of incoming complaints to determine whether they allege a potential violation and whether sufficient information has been provided to support opening an investigation.
  • Assists in managing recordkeeping and filing systems for complaints, ensuring the timely routing of new cases to the appropriate investigator and/or prosecutor.
  • Assists in maintaining organized records and filing systems for all complaint statuses, including new complaints, those under review, those awaiting additional information, and those closed or not open for investigation.
  • Drafts and issues correspondence related to complaints and investigations, including requests for additional information.
  • Assists in conducting online research to obtain identity, location, ownership, and other background information on individuals, business entities, properties, and relevant events. Performs digital evidence preservation, including archiving websites, social media content, and video materials relevant to investigations.
  • Assists with responses to inquiries from both internal team members regarding complaints filed under the agency’s statutes, rules and enforcement procedures. Provides information both orally and in writing.
