Role Overview

The ODOT Master Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and service on cars, trucks, and equipment, repairing and rebuilding major parts, and performing minor repairs or other related mechanical work. The position leads a team of lower-level mechanics, provides on-the-job training, and ensures that procedures and safety practices are followed. The ODOT Master Mechanic also diagnoses and troubleshoots electronic systems, repairs and calibrates hydraulic system control units, and evaluates and makes recommendations on mechanic-related software.

What You Will Do

The ODOT Master Mechanic performs a variety of tasks, including preventative maintenance and service, repairs, and rebuilding of major parts, and performs minor repairs or other related mechanical work. The position also provides on-the-job training to lower-level ODOT mechanics and mechanic trainees, and works with agency training administrators on program and content delivery.

Requirements

  • 48 months of experience in repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and/or agency-identified equipment
  • valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code
  • equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above, except for mandated licensure
