Job Description
The Para Sped High Incidence position involves assisting the teacher in the education of students with high incidence disabilities, including instructional assistance, organization, record keeping, and management of student behavior. The role requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and may require additional training or coursework in areas such as sign language, Braille, or first aid.

Requirements

  • Supervise students in a class setting
  • Assist in managing classroom routines and procedures
  • Assist in the interventions to redirect behavior
  • Document any occurrences and provide feedback to develop positive self-esteem
  • Assist the teacher in the physical setup of the classroom
  • Participate in effective teaming skills and collaboration
  • Provide individual and/or group instruction
  • Assist students with self-advocacy
  • Exhibit oral and written communication that is clear and expressive
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Model appropriate behavior for students
  • Develop and maintain a professional rapport with classroom teacher
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students, staff, and parents
  • Communicate with students, parents, and staff
  • Observe and chart student behavior
  • Assist in discipline of student as instructed by the teacher
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and parent conferences
  • Acquire in-service annually
