Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pathologists’ Assistant.
This position requires pathologists or experienced pathology assistants for collection of specimens in the OR.
Job Responsibilities:
- Strong communication skills for interacting and coordinating with the surgical staff to determine the exact time that specimens are excised, collect them quickly from the OR.
- Assist the Director and Managers in all aspects of optimizing core function.
- Assist in designing and testing protocols and procedures to expedite specimen and data collection.
- Coordination and multitasking required to acquire tissue in a short period of time (less than 30 minutes), and be able to work with the tissue banking staff to safely store specimens and link them to the appropriate information.
- Banking of tissue following decision process when possible.
- Perform diagnostic exam to quickly decide which parts of each specimen are NOT required for diagnosis in coordination with the attending pathologists.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Pathology training and experience in grossing a large variety of pathology specimens.
- Familiarity with tumor staging.
- Working knowledge of evolving banking practices and regulation.
- Ability to review slides is desirable but not required.
- This position requires a licensed (NYS) Pathology Assistant; Anatomic Pathologists trained in foreign universities will be considered.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $140,000 – $150,000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
