Role Overview

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) functions as part of the dialysis healthcare team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The PCT is responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, assisting in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment, and supporting the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP).

What You Will Do

The PCT will welcome assigned patients, inquire about their wellbeing, evaluate vascular access, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated. The PCT will also obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs, perform dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, and monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy.

The PCT will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, interacting with patients, facility staff, and physicians. The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. The PCT will be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials and will be required to lift and move patients, assisting with ambulation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline.
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred.
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program and successful completion of CPR certification.
