Job Description
The Phlebotomist will perform phlebotomy utilizing a variety of techniques and accurately collect and process patient specimens. The incumbent will be accountable for accurate data entry, verification, and receipt of specimens, and the processing of reports and result inquiry requests.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates competency in Laboratory Information System (LIS) functions
  • Follows standard precautions when performing venous or capillary phlebotomy
  • Assures the correct identification of patient and specimen
  • Responds to pages within an acceptable time frame
  • Demonstrates minimal redraws and performs in compliance with redraw policy
  • Maintains acceptable blood culture contamination rate of <2%
  • Interacts effectively with healthcare providers, co-workers, and patients
  • Answers telephones with professional etiquette
  • Delivers specimens to laboratory in a timely manner
  • Fills supply orders and sends supplies to floors as needed
  • Monitors collection lists and unreceived lists
  • Inventories and rotates stock to limit unnecessary waste
  • Participates in the phlebotomy competency and validation of new employees
  • Operates hospital vehicles in compliance with all regulations
