Role OverviewThe Plans and Permit Technician performs technical and clerical duties such as receiving, logging, and distributing building plans and applications; calculates plan check review and permit fees based on applicable standards. The role involves maintaining, updating, and organizing building plans, permits, and related documentation. The technician also responds to public inquiries and establishes positive working relationships with the public, contractors, and City staff.
What You Will Do
The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Plans and Permit Technician include receiving application submittals, calculating plan check review and permit fees, maintaining and updating building plans and permits, and responding to public inquiries. The technician will also issue building permits for minor residential additions and alterations in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

To be a fit for this role, you should have two years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in an architectural, engineering, building, or similar office, or completion of thirty units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in architecture, engineering, drafting, and construction or related field. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in an architectural, engineering, building, or similar office
- Completion of thirty units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in architecture, engineering, drafting, and construction or related field
- One year of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a municipal or county building or planning department
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License
- Current certificate as a Plans and Permits Technician by a recognized code publishing organization such as the International Code Council (ICC)
- Successful completion of a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment
