Plant Operator Trainee

The Plant Operator Trainee is responsible for completing all training requirements leading to the Plant Operator position at the Alma, Wisconsin facility. This role involves performing essential job functions as training steps are completed, with a focus on safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

What You Will Do

Perform maintenance during outages and housekeeping activities to keep the plant clean and hazard-free. Complete training requirements across three areas (Area III, II, I) to operate and surveil turbine/generator auxiliaries, steam generator auxiliaries, and other plant systems. Operate manual and automatic valves, electrical switches and breakers, and use tools like scrapers to clean coal systems.

Requirements

• Associate Degree or two (2) year diploma in directly related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
• Background in industrial operations, computer software, maintenance, electrical or instrumentation
• Basic mechanical, critical thinking and reading comprehension skills
• Must complete a state-approved Plant Operator apprenticeship program within three (3) years of entering the position
• Valid driver's license
• Must be able to read and understand procedures, blueprints, and technical information
• Must be computer literate and be able to navigate through windows-based programs
• Ability to wear protective equipment (safety glasses, hard hat, respirators, etc.)
• Ability to become respirator certified
• Physical ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist upper body, walk, bend, reach, stretch, write, hear, speak, see, finger, grasp, climb (stairs, ladders, sky climber, confined spaces), push, pull, lift (up to 75 pounds; 40 pounds frequently)
• Ability to operate scissor lifts and forklifts as required
