Requirements

• Installation, repair, assembly, and maintenance of plant plumbing
• Installation of compressed air, chemical, industrial waste fluids, steam systems, and accessory installations
• Corrective maintenance to resolve issues and preventive maintenance inspections
• Installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners
• Repair and maintenance of plumbing, by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipe, and opening clogged drains
• Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work required and sequence of installations
• Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors
• Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
• Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine
• Assembles and installs valves, pipe fitting, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic
• Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints
• Fills pipe system with water or air to read pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking
• Reading blueprints to determine size, position, and amount of material required
• Cutting, threading, and installing pipe, using hand tools and power tools
• Installing pipe in walls, ceilings, and floors
• Must be able to perform work wearing personnel protective equipment
