Role Overview

The Portable Load Limit Inspector sets up and operates portable and/or stationary platform scales at selected rotating sites and/or weigh stations to check the weight of commercial vehicles and ensure compliance with state weight limits. The inspector weighs and inspects self-propelled construction equipment, commercial vehicles, and/or loads relative to legal limitations and special hauling permit limitations. The inspector may also appear in court as a witness relative to overload citations.

The main responsibilities of the Portable Load Limit Inspector include setting up and operating portable and/or stationary platform scales, weighing and inspecting commercial vehicles and loads, and answering inquiries from the general public regarding information and directions.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's license required
  • Formal education that includes reading, writing, and speaking English and in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Renewal of driver license as required by law
