Probation Parole Sergeant

The Probation and Parole Sergeant position plays a central role in managing the correctional population, promoting public safety, and encouraging offenders to make positive life-changing decisions for their future. Sergeants are responsible for managing the correctional population, promoting public safety, and encouraging offenders to make positive life-changing decisions. They may be called upon to arrest, detain violators, and testify in district court information hearings relative to sentencing or revocation of client's probation or parole status.

What You Will Do

The Probation and Parole Sergeant will perform various duties, including interviewing, hiring, training, appraising, rewarding/disciplining, advancing/terminating employees, completing performance evaluations, and providing guidance and direction to subordinates. They will also oversee the issue of equipment for Probation and Parole staff, including firearms and state vehicles, and conduct regular case management audits as required per policy.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in behavioral science and 3 years of experience in Probation and Parole. You will also need to be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. You will be required to pass a POST Basic Certification after attending training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy and successfully completing one year of employment with the Department of Corrections.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in behavioral science such as criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, or guidance counseling
• 3 years of experience in Probation and Parole
• POST Basic Certification after attending training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy and successfully completing one year of employment with the Department of Corrections
• Citizen of the United States
• At least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Montana driver's license
