Role OverviewThe Probation and Parole Sergeant position plays a central role in managing the correctional population, promoting public safety, and encouraging offenders to make positive life-changing decisions for their future. Sergeants are responsible for arresting, detaining violators, and testifying in district court information hearings. They must also handle situations where probation and parole offenders or inmates become hostile and pose a physical threat.
What You Will Do
The Probation and Parole Sergeant will perform various duties, including interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating employees. They will also provide guidance and direction to subordinates, complete performance evaluations, and approve and submit time sheets. Additionally, they will oversee the issue of equipment for Probation and Parole staff, including firearms and state vehicles.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in behavioral science
- 3 years of experience in Probation and Parole
- POST Basic Certification
- Citizen of the United States of America
- At least 18 years of age
- Fingerprinted for a criminal history search
- Not been convicted of a crime for which could have led to being imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiary
- Good moral character, as determined by a thorough background screen
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Montana driver's license
