Role OverviewThe Program Assistant provides essential 24-hour awake coverage and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the shelter. This position is responsible for the welfare, safety, and comfort of shelter guests, as well as daily support to ensure their needs are met with dignity and care.
What You Will Do
Assures that Daily/Weekly/Monthly schedule of housekeeping maintenance tasks are completed in a satisfactory and timely manner. Assigns volunteer tasks to guests and supports them to ensure tasks are carried out satisfactorily.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Ability to relate with others in a respectful manner and work well as a team member
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants
- Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of persons who are materially poor and/or homeless
- Understanding and respect for the confidentiality of clients
- Ability to organize oneself, one's work, and other persons sufficiently to accomplish the required daily tasks
- Knowledge of floor and building maintenance; basic handyperson skills
