Role Overview

The Program Counselor will work closely with Youth Development Specialists, contracted providers, and the Department of Education to develop and implement cultural, educational, and recreational programming for all Secure Detention youth throughout the year. The role involves building relationships among staff and using collective resources to provide comprehensive programs and activities. The Program Counselor will be responsible for assessing internal and external programs, providing feedback and recommendations for program improvement, and certifying that vendors comply with contracts.

What You Will Do

The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Program Counselor include developing and implementing programs and activities that promote teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The role also involves working directly with youth to develop and implement programs and activities that promote healthy lifestyles, and supporting the facilities and contracted providers in implementing special projects, workshops, or other events as needed.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties described above
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above
