Job Description
Role Overview

As an EIT Rail, you will serve in a technical role on railroad or civil engineering/design projects to support HDR's Freight Rail Market Sector and other market sectors as needed. You will perform calculations, develop design details, and support project managers in proposal development, budgeting, and scheduling. You will work across teams, regions, and with various clients, and be involved in project activities from feasibility analysis to construction phase activities.

What You Will Do

Your main responsibilities will include performing calculations and developing design details, writing specifications, developing cost estimates, and reviewing construction submittals. You will also support project managers in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections. Additionally, you will review or check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by other staff.

Why It Might Be a Fit

To be a good fit for this role, you should have a strong interest in the freight railroad industry, 2+ years of experience in railroad engineering, and familiarity with railroad design guidelines, specifications, and design criteria. You should also be able to become licensed as a P.E. or P. Eng. in additional jurisdictions through the NCEES or similar.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
  • Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • MS Office Applications experience
  • Strong interest in railroad design
  • Ability to become licensed as a P.E. or P. Eng. in additional jurisdictions through the NCEES or similar
