Role OverviewThis position serves as the Recreation Coordinator at Albemarle Correctional Institution, a medium custody facility housing up to 856 male offenders. Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden for Operations, the role is responsible for the overall recreational program for offenders in a state prison facility, ensuring performance-based standards and expected practices are established and met.
What You Will Do
Develop, implement, and maintain the recreational program, including accountability of compliance for accreditation. Develop a comprehensive annual recreation plan to promote physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being, including leisure time activities, structured activities, special activities, and recognition activities involving both the facility and the community. Oversee recreational activity planning, seasonal/holiday events, equipment/supply purchasing and inventory, evaluation of recreational areas, and library access for all offenders.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
- Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must produce a negative drug screening result
- Must successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Must possess a valid driver's license
