Role Overview

Under general supervision, this position assigns, directs, and performs tasks in the development and implementation of recreational programs and activities within a facility or as part of a major program area. The Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for assessing participant needs and implementing appropriate program modifications to create a therapeutic and inclusive environment for all participants. This position oversees Therapeutic Recreation programs, ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and manages the day-to-day operations of the recreation facility.

What You Will Do

Organizes employees, contractors, and/or volunteers, plans, develops, coordinates, and schedules programs, activities, events, and staffing, manages and directs the daily operations of recreational facilities, activities, and/or special events, coordinates Citywide events, and recommends the purchase of new equipment and coordinates purchase orders.

The Recreation Program Coordinator also needs to have knowledge of principles and methods for development design and coordination of recreational programs, activities, and events, and skill in oral and written communication, handling multiple tasks and prioritizing, using computers and related software, data analysis and problem solving, and planning and organizing.

Requirements

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Recreation or a related field
  • One (1) year of experience related to the development and implementation of the assigned programs
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, Water Safety Instruction, or other areas as specified for the assigned class
  • Texas Class "C" Driver or Commercial Driver license if required for the assignment
